Spa & Hot tub Care, Tips, Information

Spa Start-Up - Chlorine & Bromine
Chlorinated Spa Start-Up
(first time or upon drain/refill)

Special note:  If your spa has been operational or NOT operational for any period of time, we strongly recommend treating the spa FIRST with a spa plumbing cleaner such as product such as Spa Purge or Swirl Away or AquaFinesse Spa Clean Tablet or Spa System Flush or SpaBoss Whirlpool Rinse  to attack & remove the biofilm..  Cleaning the plumbing lines gets rid of stuff hiding in those concealed places where bacteria & problems hide & breed.  For more information about bio-films, please read this information.

  1. Fill spa or hot tub with water.  Add 1.0 oz. SpaGuard® Stain & Scale Control per 300 gallons of spa water.

  2. Once filled, start your equipment following the manufacturer's instructions.

  3. Add 1.0 oz. SpaGuard® Water Clarifier per 300 gallons.  Circulate for about 5 minutes.

  4. Using a BioGuard®/SpaGuard® 4 way Test Strip, test for Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness & pH.

  5. Balance the Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness & pH of the spa water.**

  6. Apply SpaGuard® Chlorinating Concentrate according to label instructions.  Establish a proper chlorine residual of 1.0 to 3.0 ppm chlorine.
