| Russian Adoptions.
My wife Barbara & I began this trek in
January of 2002. We had adopted our daughter Bethany through Bethany
Christian Services as an infant born here in the US. As time went on, we
considered adopting again, but the timing was never quite right. That
winter of 2002 found us looking for a child again. This time we found what
we were looking for.
What we didn't want was to go through the foster
care system (did that several years earlier). Nor did we want to adopt an
infant again (did that too!) We were looking for an older child in need of
a mom, dad, doting sister and a warm home. Barbara read an article in one
of our local papers about a program through an adoption agency based in Maryland
that offered a "summer camp". Through the Bridge of Hope program, we were
able to host a child (with a firm commitment toward adoption) for about 5 weeks and
see how we blended. Needless to say, it was the correct avenue for our
family to follow. By the end of 2002, we were now a family of 4. Now
as the summer of 2004 approaches, we will soon become a family of 5!
The following pages tell a little bit of our
story.
